Don’t Over Think Country Lists

“Every extra step on a form will see greater bail-out before finishing”

Roger Johansson of 456 Berea Street has posted today on the usability issues surrounding the use of drop-down lists in forms for selection of countries. Roger cites the Jakob Nielsen article written in november, 2000 suggesting a simple list of hard coded links on a page but I agree that’s not an option in a form. And he points to Bruce Lawson’s current project allowing users to input their choice with server-side error correction and a lookup table for identifying like-synonyms such as UK and GB.

Holy Moley - Cascading Stylesheets!

“I bow to their spittled cockroach infested feet”

At one time only a few short years ago I would sit in the labs at university and hear tables, frames and spacer gifs espoused as the currency of good web sites. The lecturers forced us to use nested frames on assignments and I recall at the School of Information Systems in a Web Management elective the senior lecturer was gobsmacked that I produced a layout with Cascading Stylesheets (CSS). Holy Moley!
